Firefly was better science fiction than Star Wars. That's only a bold statement because it never got the same recognition, but it's cancellation was one of the worst mistakes in the long sad history of poor TV marketing decisions.
On that level, Serentiy is a godsend, a love letter to everyone upset by the show's lack of closure. It's even accessible to people who haven't watched the show, which is perfect for introducing it to new audiences.
Serenity is the film the Star Wars prequels should have been.
