Serenity is a continuation of TV's Firefly, a quickly cancelled sci-fi western that amassed a significant cult following. Its story surrounds a rakish space crew who stumble upon a living weapon (Summer Glau).
She's wanted by the draconian Alliance for reasons connected to a plague of threatening space cannibals. Serenity may be a bit confusing for those who haven't seen Firefly, but it should charm most thanks to its zippy dialogue and amiable cast.
Nathan Fillion in particular offers a strong amount of roguish affability.
