Review of Serendipity (2001) by Erwin P — 17 Sep 2009
I saw this at an early screening not long after the 9/11 attacks. When everyone saw the twin towers, there was a reaction. Some hissed (a very San Francisco thing) and booed, others just gasped. Some talked quietly. I heard that they erased them from the movie after that. This was on TV, but I missed the parts in the beginning where they were. And I haven?t had the volition to actually make the effort to see this movie again. Not that this was a bad movie, just not the kind of lasting impression types.
Eugene Levy?s character didn?t need to be in it. Jeremy Piven plays his character perfectly. Same with the tall guy from Northern Exposure. Molly Shannon is pretty unnecessary, or should be different considering Piven already kind of plays that character. I don?t think the Beckensale character is developed enough and John Cusack plays this guy as you would expect him to. It?s the same character as he played in Must Love Dogs. The roles didn?t conjure up much attachment but the story itself plays out well and it is funny and quirky at some moments.
