Review of Serendipity (2001) by Jc E — 22 Jun 2010
This film worked on so many more levels than it should have. Not should the formula have been off-putting, the execution should have been terribly predictable. However, neither was the case. Surprisingly enough, there's actually some genuine chemistry between John Cusack (2012) and Kate Beckinsale (Whiteout).
That said, some of the supporting characters -- played by Jeremy Piven (The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard), Molly Shannon (A Night at the Roxbury), John Corbett (Tombstone), and Eugene Levy (Astro Boy) -- get pretty old, pretty quick.
However, the fate-inspired tale is pretty effective, and actually quite fun to watch. In spite of the annoying secondary characters and some minor rom-com pitfalls, this is actually a heartwarming chick flick that can be enjoyed by most willing to give into a little escapism.
