Review of Séraphine (2008) by Julius L — 13 Feb 2010
Art does come in unexpected places. No wonder Yolande Moreau gave Meryl Streep stiff competition for film critics' awards. She did inhabit the character of primitive modernist painter, Séraphine de Senlis.
Under Martin Provost's direction, I was fully immersed in her life. Each scene was a virtual still life. It's one of the few effective portraits of an artist. Perfect companion film for "Bright Star.
" May contemplative cinema even flourish.
