Review of Seraphim Falls (2007) by Tim L — 21 Feb 2011
Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson are both brilliant in this morality tale about revenge, which should be filed somewhere in between Western and surrealist dream.
However, even they can't save the film from dragging. It is full of metaphor and symbolism, but these come at the expense of moving the plot forward, and ultimately aren't very clever (Louise C Fair tempting the protagonists in the desert is just one example).
That said, it's not a terrible film. As well as being well-acted, it is visually stunning, especially in the second half, with shots that could be printed, framed, and hung in some nouveau-rich lounge.
Not terrible, but not very good either.
