There is something so wrong, yet so right about this movie. The plot seems to be heavier than what Fontaine and Cotten can carry. Clearly, Joseph Cotten and Joan Fontaine are two of cinema's greatest actors, but their chemistry together wasn't strong enough to pull this off.
The cinematography, though, is exquisite, and Fontaine has never looked better.
