Review of Sense and Sensibility (1995) by Kevin H — 11 Apr 2009
A beautiful and entertaining version of Jane Austen's novel. Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet give two of their best performances. Ang Lee was already a master director when he made this, and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Brokeback Mountain" were still yet to come.
It was too bad he was overlooked for a Best Director nomination by the Academy for this (and more unfortunate that this film lost Best Picture to that blood and guts Mel Gibson Scottish tale).
