Review of Sense and Sensibility (1995) by Aje C — 18 Apr 2009
What could be better than a 19th century soap opera?! This film, with it's star-studded cast, is delightful. Emma Thompson teamed with Ang Lee craft a visually beautiful film that flows easily and teases us just enough to hold our interest through the entire 2-1/4 hours. Instead of being a boring period-piece this film presents scenes of courtship rules and rituals that are archaic at best by today's standards - making them feel contemporary at their heart.
Oh - House MD fans may be interested to watch to see your first glimpse of Dr. House... Hugh Laurie's Mr. Palmer bears a very strong resemblance to the gruff Gregory House... ;).
