Review of Senna (2010) by Dennis R — 23 Apr 2012
The odds were stacked against this one from the beginning; I am a fan of neither Formula 1 racing, nor documentaries. That said, Senna makes for an interesting and charming screen presence, his feud with Proust gives the film some much needed dramatic heft and his tragic fate is particularly moving.
Full props must go to the film-makers also for trawling through hours of footage, and renovating the traditional documentary format somewhat. Nevertheless the films focus more on his professional life, and less on his personal one, and my own disinterest with the topic, held me from loving, rather that liking, the film.
