Review of Senna (2010) by Ryan O — 18 Aug 2013
I don't follow Formula One racing and have never actually watched it either. All I know is its race cars, low to ground with super speeds. That is until a friend of mine recommended the documentary Senna. Given my level of interest in this topic, it took me a while to get around to watching this fast-paced film about Formula One racer Ayrton Senna, a Brazilian racer who one three Formula One World Championships.
The film details Senna's rise to fame and the inherent politics that plagued the Formula One circuit. From car changes to ego driven competitiveness amongst drivers, Senna shows there is always much more behind the scenes than just the sport itself. This was a fascinating portrait of a man who lived and breathed racing. Much like Formula One racing, the film moves at a fast pace and before its stunning climax.
If you're not a racing fan, that's ok. I'm certainly not, nor am I all that familiar with the in's and out's of racing. What I did find was an incredible story that shouldn't be missed. I enjoyed Senna a great deal.
