Review of Send Me No Flowers (1964) by Cam C — 31 Jan 2008
If you didn't know it already, I kind of have a thing for nostalgia flicks.
After a visit to the Doctors, Rock Hudson (George) mistakingly believes himself to die within a few weeks. Not wanting to tell his wife, Judy (played by Doris Day in a horrific haircut. Wig?) he confides in his friend...who reacts by getting reeeally drunk. ^_^ Because Jane appears more or less incompetent, and dependent on her husband, George decides he needs to find her a man before he goes.
What happens is your typical sort of sitcom scenario, with many funny moments and physical comedy, and yet the film never flys of the deep end.
Doris Day's acting is tops. Very funny and reminicent of Elizabeth Montgomery in bewitched. And I appreciated how her character seemed to gain more strength and self worth towards the end.
Stand out comedic performance for Tony Randall as the bereaved Arnold. It's evident the three actors have great chemistry and although I enjoyed Pillow Talk a lot more, it is still a competent. romantic comedy.
The ending was a little weak and unresolved but overall I liked it.
