Review of Semi-Pro (2008) by Brian M — 26 Mar 2010
I was suprised when I found out that the subject of this movie was a washed up basket ball team from Flint Michigan.
Since, I live in Michigan, I found it kind of mildly interesting. And, the whole team-owner/player thing seemed like something only a michigander with money would do.
The first half of the movie was kind of slow and boring. It did not get interesting until Woody came along, not only to save the basketball team, but save a dull film as well. As he and Will ferrel were the only things good about it.
There seemed to be a lot of familar faces from Blades of Glory, and a couple other Ferril films. As if these guys must follow each other around to see where the next comedy flick is being done, and team up no matter what.
The good thing about this movie, is that it did get better toward the end. It had some nice moments, and actually started to seem like a movie about basketball players, and not just a bunch of actors trying to funk their way through a lame comedy in 70's disco attire.
It's not a great film, but, it did have a decent story.
