Review of Semi-Pro (2008) by Johnny T — 20 Feb 2011
Semi-Pro is a decent sports comedy. Even though it dosen't surpass or beat Will Ferrell's previous sports film, Talladega Nights, there are some ludicrous sight gags and uniquely silly, if foul-mouthed, laughs. At time's the jokes are not laugh out loud funny. Ultimately, we don't purchase tickets to Will Ferrell movies for their sweeping romantic storylines, but because he makes us laugh. And Semi-Pro offers plenty of reasons to do so. Critics will score Semi-Pro on its missed shots. My guess is that audiences will do what they always do with Ferrell: remember when he killed them laughing.
VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theater or buy an ex rental or a cheap price the DVD to own.
