Review of Semi-Pro (2008) by Eddie M — 10 Jul 2011

A nostalgic, humorous take on an era filled with big hair, big pants, and two national basketball leagues. Although I was not alive to report on the accuracy of Semi-Pro's depiction of the seventies, I think it's probably safe to say that the entire atmosphere of the era was especially exploited for the sake of humor, which would have been just fine, if Semi-Pro was humorous.

Overall, save a few particularly riotous bits, this film was a poorly pasted collage of mediocre gags that barely managed to maintain a plotline. However, when it did make you laugh, you laughed HARD.

So for succeeding at entertaining the audience, which was clearly the goal of the film-makers in this instance, I rate Semi-Pro 3 stars. But, don't take my word for it!
