Review of Semi-Pro (2008) by Anthony K — 24 Jul 2018
Probably a little better than you remember it. The cast is surprisingly great (aside from a poorly used Andre 3K, how dare you do him like that), highlighted by a meatier-than-expected role for Andy Daly.
Will Ferrell is right in his wheelhouse as an affable blowhard, and Will Arnett gives you exactly what you'd want from him; I must admit though that Woody Harrelson turns in a bored performance, especially when compared to White Men Can't jump.
It's....fine. There are actually a lot of funny moments in between the groaners, and the premise is pretty strong for a movie of this nation. It's surreal, I must admit, to hear of Flint, Michigan outside of a poison-water context.
