Selma is a movie about the rise of Martin Luther King's non violent fight for the black Americans to be allowed to vote in the USA.

The strange thing in the movie was that although they were given the rights to work and have some basic rights they did not have the right to make the choices for themselves and Dr King struggle to democratically negotiate with the white leadership at the time was a uphill battle that he won at the end to a degree but the sad thing is that although the movement started with Dr King the division of races, colours and religions are still present today.

We have progressed on the surface but it is still present and the method is quite simple FEAR! why do we have to be scared of one another why do we not sit and talk to one another to try and find a equal understanding of where all sides come from and the different perspectives all sides have.

This is not a USA problem but a global issue and I can easily say that the divisions of the different cultures are present in Australia where you can see using the simple forms of public transport that a mass particular race exits trains at a particular station does not mean we have multiculturalism it means we may accept all races religions and cultural backgrounds but they are in particular pockets in our local geography.

This needs to change and it can and must happen and only will happen with acceptance and education for all parties.

What is amazing this movie is quite current 1965 was not that long ago and we have made progress in the right directions for example in USA we now have had a Black President and in Australia we have had our first woman Prime Minister. These are steps in the right direction but the march is long but not over.

Don't be scared of what and who you don't know but educate oneself to understand both sides or the fence.

Ok enough of my rant the movie is highly recommended and should be watched by all including the kids with parental guidance and this movie should be shown in the schools globally maybe as part of our modern history subject.

A movie that is a must watch and even bought and added to your collection.
