Review of Self/less (2015) by Thegodfatherson — 10 Jul 2015
On one hand, we have an insanely interesting movie, yet so pathetic. On the other, we have a major effort by Ryan Reynolds and Tarsem Singh. Self/less is fine. There is action, some good acting and crazy plot twists.
But, the film is a soap opera on drugs, Reynolds's pathetic character doesn't add anything to the mix, they didn't show Ben Kingsley much and the movie has some of the most ridiculous writing I have seen in any summer blockbuster.
Singh ultimately puts a major illusion on his film, I can't say that I liked it, but I can say that I had some fun with it. It's well shot, colourful and very edgy. I still don't know if I could recommend it though.
