Review of Self/less (2015) by Chris F — 17 Dec 2015
Self/less has a very nice and cool premise. It had an opportunity to explore some really cool ideas, like this year's brilliant Ex Machina. Unfortunately, the film delves into a very generic action shooter movie.
Ryan Reynolds is fine in the film. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't necessarily any good. Ben Kingsley looks like he is only in it for the money. He really phones in this performance. The transition from the first body to the second is strange.
The part where he specifically transitions is cool, but Kingsley and Reynolds' characters are basically two different people. The action isn't really that good. As I mentioned before, it is very generic.
It is very plain and dull. This uneventful movie wastes an interesting premise on a generic action movie.
