Review of Seeking Justice (2011) by Zanele J — 02 Jan 2013
Seeking Justice.
A group more powerful than the police is handling the bad guys and taking out the garbage in exchange for a small favour in the future.
Will Gerard (Nicolas Cage) is married to Laura Gerard (January Jones) and are happily married, one day after work, Laura is brutally attacked, frustrated and alone in the hospital, Simon (Guy Pearce) approaches Will and offer to handle the bad guy, they know his whereabouts and his previous conviction, Simon explains the futility of going the legal route. Will reluctantly agrees.
Later Will starts getting a request from Simon, he is not interested, Simon is now frustrated, he pushes will and Will agrees, in an accident the man Will is tracking is killed, all the available cameras show will in a bad light and is arrested. He later escapes police custody. And sets out to dig the truth.
The love story between Will and Laura is established, even after the traumatic incident, they cope just fine, no sign of grief, although Laura requisitions for safety bars on windows and doors.
The ending is worrisome, does killing Simon solve things? Because he seems to be a cell in a bigger organisation, even having him arrested is not going to be enough because the cell has clearly infiltrated the cops, schools, and the press.
Its a difficult subject to handle but one that is entertaining nonetheless.
