Review of Seeking Justice (2011) by James D — 01 Apr 2013
Despite bad reviews, and everyone's new found hatred for one of my favorite 90's actors Nicolas Cage, I thought that this movie was semi-entertaining and grabbed my attention a hell of a lot better than I gave it credit for when I saw the previews.
Yes, Cage has gone downhill the past 10 years, and I'm a firm believer that it all has to do with the writing that he encounters. With the right writer, I feel like you'll get that great performance you expect from Cage, and I hope that in future years you'll get more of that.
With a plot that is semi-predictable, and one that we have seen very much of, the movie holds it's own in my opinion with a good performance from Cage, a great one from Guy Pearce (the baddie), who is weird, maniacal, and intense.
You also get a good supporting performance from January Jones who plays Cage's wife who gets raped and Cage sends out Pearce's gang who feels they're above the law to track down the scum of the city.
It's not going to be one of the better movies you watch, but you will be entertained throughout, so have an open mind, and go in not expecting a lot, otherwise you'll just be let down. I'd say expect better things to come from Cage in the near future, from what I saw in this, he's getting back to his self from the 90's, very slowly though.
3/5 JD.
