Review of Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012) by Hannah H — 07 Aug 2013
I loved this movie. I guess nobody else really did? I thought it was touching, charming, without leaving out Carrell's awkwardness we've all come to love. It delves into some pretty serious issues, apart from the apocalypse.
Failed marriages, bad relationships, basic human instinct and decency. I liked that the movie was slow, you needed time to process all of the heavy emotions coming at you! I loved the restaurant scene, and Martin Sheen's performance.
And the ending? I suppose you could see it as depressing, it's definitely a tear jerker. But I think the much more valuable takeaway from it was the value of strong special human connection. The power and peace that it brings us, even in the face of certain demise.
I have no idea why this is rated so poorly, truly unappreciated for what it is.
