Review of Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012) by J K — 08 May 2014
One of these days Steve Carrell will accomplish what only Robin Williams and Bill Murray have managed to do: shake the comedic type casting stigma and win a major drama award like an Oscar or Golden Globe.
He's close but not quite there. The dramatical roles he's been taking, like this film and his decent turn in Little Miss Sunshine, show that the man has immense acting talent but he is still stuck in that type cast rut so to speak.
This film was "meh" in that it's an interesting premise but needed more laughs, which ironically is what Carrell DID NOT want for this role. It's funny that the one thing he clearly wants more than anything else is to be taken seriously as an actor and not a "comedic actor.
" It's that one thing that doomed this film from the start.
