If not for the comic gold of Wilder and Pryor, this movie would be absolute crap. the writing is incredibly unimpressive--under-developed characters, interesting but weakly structured plot, and some very bland and unfunny dialogue.
somehow, though, the two stars seem to make it work. their performances aren't brilliant, but whatever high points exist in the film are there because of them. I laughed and I was entertained, so it's passable.
