Review of See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989) by Johnny T — 12 Sep 2011
With Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder in the lead roles, See No Evil, Hear No Evil could only be a broadly played, occasionally crass, funny physical comedy. I love this movie, always have. Sure, you can see the jokes coming from miles away. I mean, one guy is deaf and the other is blind and they exploit those points to no end. What really makes the movie is the partnership of Wilder and Pryor. The comedy is pretty obvious in this one and just knowing that one guy is deaf and the other is blind probably sets up the jokes in your head before you watch. It's still so funny because of the great delivery and timing of Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Two comic geniuses who are even better when together. This is straight up comedy with a subtle touch of emotion if you're looking for it. In the end, can you really go wrong with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor together?
VERDICT: "Full Price" - My second highest rating (Positive to Mixed reaction). This is a rating to a movie I view as very entertaining and well made, and definitely worth paying the full price at a theatre to see or own on DVD. It is not perfect, but it is definitely excellent.
