Review of See No Evil (2006) by Josh J — 27 Sep 2009
I get the feeling that the good folks at WWE (and Lionsgate, let's not leave them out) thought they had the next iconic horror villain here. He's kind of like Jason only twice as dumb, half as slow and just about as scary...by which I mean he's not.
A lot of effort was put into making this a truly repugnant film. In that, it succeeds. I'm not certain it does so in the manner in which they were hoping for though.
I will give it points for a couple inventive kills: the cell phone and the dogs. However, it lacks the two most essential element of a good thriller: suspense and sympathetic victims. It's pretty much impossible to like these kids and the makers waste no time with the concept of suspense and rather just jump right in to the hollow gore.
PS: The Jesus-freak angle is so over. Find a new topic.
