Review of Secretary (2002) by Mark A — 11 Feb 2009
Very strong performances from Spader and Gyllenhaal, it's sad that they were over looked by award voters. The film starts off very interesting, but then it hits a stall. The film becomes repetitive and the plot doesn't really progress.
There are several subplots that don't end up adding to much, but I guess that's to show why Gyllenhaal is the way she is. Then towards the end the film almost becomes a comedy with Gyllenhaal's proof of love.
But the film quickly goes back to its twisted tale. The film is very seductive, not in a Basic Instinct way, but in its own way.
