Review of Secretary (2002) by Daisy M — 21 May 2010
The Secretary in question was Lee (Maggie Gyllenhaal), who was sexually disturbed in this movie. She was released from a mental hospital, her family thought she was crazy because she was cutting herself.
Due to lack of character development, one can only assumed why she was doing that. She applied for a job as a secretary for Mr. Grey. I had no trouble with Gyllenhaal role, who was fascinating. James Spader played a sick SOB, Mr.
E. Edward Gray. A lawyer who was similarly mentally ill as Lee. They made a good couple, being in a Sado-masochistic relationship.I enjoyed the acting and Maggie's sweet, innocent looks, the but story was a little too sick, and the characters were just too dysfunctional for my taste.
If you like kinky stuff and don't mind a slow story, you might like this movie.
