Review of Secretary (2002) by Anh H — 04 Dec 2013
Very unusual and unconventional. Unlike 50 Shades [which is a total rip-off of this movie], Secretary has quite a clever way of approaching such a tricky theme. The S&M backdrop only helps bring out the nature of the characters, but not becomes the main subject.
It's a story of self-acceptance and tolerance. Despite the sensitive matter, both Gyllenhaal and Spader brought excellent performances, depicting a strange kind of love but love nonetheless that leaves the audience stay tune in their chairs.
