Review of Secretary (2002) by Sherry B — 23 Jun 2009
When I watched this movie a while ago on TV, I thought it would have been much better following the hype it received on Sky Movies' ads and in other movie magazines.
In the end I found it a bit of a "so what?" movie.
The whole effort was fairly average and fairly boring in stretches. It did have occasional funny moments and the actors did try but with a weak script and plodding obvious plot it all became a bit forgettable if even fairly juvenile towards the end.
It may have worked better with a more interesting lead than Spader and if it had been done in black and white with noir touches to add mystery and darker tones. But it did need a much better script to really make something of the fairly taboo subject.
One curious point: why did the office have a typewriter and old phones when it was set in the modern day? Have I missed something?
