Solid story about the greatest racehorse in history that while doesn't do anything extraordinary, makes for rousing viewing throughout. Diane Lane is superb as Penny Chenery, Secretariat's owner who finds herself going from being a suburban housewife to ruining her family business when tragedy strikes.

She gets great support from the rest of the cast, particularly John Malkovich as her eccentric horse trainer. Behind the camera, Randal Wallace crafts a solid film that wisely sticks to the story, though doesn't do anything too extraordinary.

Granted, the story of Secretariat doesn't need much embellishing (Wallace wisely sticks to history), but one wishes some themes were further explored, particularly feminist ones as that Chenery faced in what was a male dominated sport.

Overall, still a fun watch and does manage to recapture some of the glory of that brilliant race horse.
