Review of Secretariat (2010) by Clint D — 01 May 2011
I was so glad when Disney decided to take on the story of the greatest horse who ever lived and they made his hundreds of offspring proud. Diane Lane is the anchor for the entire film, she's in pretty much every scene and the audience never gets tired of seeing her.
Malkovich brings life to the odd figure that is Lucien Laurin and he drops his usual menace for a part easier to root for than his usual fare. The closing race scene, as Secretariat turns for the final stretch at the marathon-like Belmont Stakes is one of the most exciting and well-done sequences ever in a sports film.
