Review of Secretariat (2010) by Jillian L — 10 Feb 2012
Shmeh. I think I am getting bored of "true story underdog champion" movies. Yes, this story is inspirational, yes, this story deserves to be known. I blame Disney on this one. Miracle and Invincible are great movies.
This one was boring compared to those two. The horse racing scenes are cool, but it's not exactly "pulse pounding" especially at the end. You know he is going to win. Yay. I will give credit though, to Diane Lane, who turns in a great performance as Penny Tweedy.
John Malkovich was bascially himself. Espeically after I found out that the real Lucien wasn't out there, and dressed conservatively, the opposites are character traits of the movie Lucien. So, writer's choice, or actor's choice? Who knows.
I will say though, the horses are really pretty. Was surprised when Amanda Milchaka popped up as one of Penny's daughters, who is adament about protesting the war, and of course, ends up singing during a war protest play.
Damn you Disney. I enjoyed her performance though. Overall, it's not a bad movie, it's just a typical movie.
