Review of Secret Window (2004) by James M — 28 Jul 2010
***SPOILER WARNING***.
I really wish I watched this before The Number 23 as it's a better story of a similar theme. I've also not read the Stephen King novel on which it's based so will have to review the movie on it's own merits.
Johnny Depp is, as usual, excellent in lead and the supporting cast are all very good, especially an insidiously creepy John Turturro. I'm familiar with David Koepp's previous work as a writer but to my recollection this is the only film I've seen which he's directed. It's pretty standard but there are a few visuals which I was very impressed with, in particular the mirror scene towards the end.
On the negative side, I did find it a little too predictable (I learned a lot from Fight Club) but it was still very refreshing to watch a psychological thriller without a Hollywood ending.
