Review of Secret Window (2004) by Dino B — 09 Dec 2010
A strong opening twenty minutes is ruined by some shoddy acting and a bad script, which sees Johnny Depp not really connecting to the fractured nature of his character thus never letting audiences get to grips with the character.
The 'twist' is also predictable, and David Koepp spends far too much time trying to build suspense that he leaves out any sense of momentum or atmosphere. Though the film scores with its serene lakeside setting, it is ultimately based on a story that thinks its cleverer than it actually is (well, the screenplay is).
