Review of Secret Window (2004) by Ashleigh W — 13 Dec 2011
One of the best Stephen King adaptations, 'Secret Window' is a very well done film. As with 'The Mist', Kings novellas are often the stories that produce the best films.
As far as its production, the script, cinematography and overall direction are top notch. It has a little bit of Alfred Hitchcock in there. The acting is also quite good. Depp is really the only one who doesn't' totally come through, although thats not because he didn't play his part well. He just seems out of place in the role. Turturro is fantastic in what is probably his finest performance. He brings a real feel of menace to the film.
Like so many thrillers, the key to its success is its pacing. Starting slowly, drawing you in, and then gradually picking up steam until you're on the edge of your seat. A great twist ending, which alot of movies have since tried to copy (see 'Hide and Seek').
