Review of Secret in Their Eyes (2015) by Drew M — 23 Nov 2015
Not an Aplus film, but not a stinker. I can see why critics were not too fond of this film. One reason is that apparently this is a remake of a foreign film that won the Oscar for best Foreign Language film, and as we all know the remake is never as good as the original.
I for one have not seen the film, so I will not compare. Another reason why this film isn't a hit is that the story is very hard to keep up with when they go back and forth between the past 13years ago and now.
Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Ray and steals the show with his heartwarming performance and has marvelous chemistry with Claire the hot district attorney played by Nicole Kidman. She's an absolute beauty to watch, and although she's great to watch in thrillers and delivers a terrific performance, out of the three big stars in this film, she gives the least standout performance.
Julia Roberts plays Jess the mother who loses her daughter. She gives a heartbreaking performance going through her pain, suffering, and revenge state all through the film. Dean Norrris is also entertaining with his performance as a cop partner to Ray.
There are however big surprises, plots, twists, and turns throughout the story and there's also even a few laughable moments as well. Overall though if you love thrillers, mystery, and any of these three big stars, you will love this film.
My overall grade=81%(B).
