Review of Secret in Their Eyes (2015) by Patrick C — 01 Jan 2016
I could not agree more. I approached it with trepidation as the original Argentinian movie is the best of its genre I have ever seen ... and one of the best movies overall in over 60 years of film-going! The stars have no chemistry and seem to sleepwalk through soem of their scenes together.
The switching back and forth from ;now'; to years in the apst in the orioginal is clear and seamless while in the remake it is just c0nfusing. The impact of the ending is less that the original - and overall treatment of the bereaved is 'chalk and cheese' between the two.
Overall it is a very weak and clumsy adaptation - and one that might better never have been made. If one has not seen the original, I suppose the reaction might be marginally better.
