Review of Secondhand Lions (2003) by Paul M — 04 Oct 2008
Wholesome family friendly movie that's entertaining but ultimately forgettable.
Duvall and Caine are great and it's refreshing to see a film that's all about the story. Osment though seems to be suffering from Macaulay Culkin syndrome (i.e. his acting talent seems to slowly disappear as he ages) and movie is about 20 minutes too long.
The main problem however is it's obvious comparison to Big Fish - both films have similar themes and plot points, but Big Fish is a superior film and as such I kept thinking I should put that in my DVD player instead of continuing watching Secondhand Lions.
That said it's definitely an entertaining film and worth a watch on those rainy Sunday afternoons.
