Review of Secondhand Lions (2003) by Belinda W — 13 Dec 2009
This was a delightful movie. I had no idea what to expect when I got the DVD, getting it only because I was a fan of several of the actors in it. I loved it. This movie is a coming of age comedy, and the casting for it could not have been better. Haley Joel Osment does a superb job n portraying all of the awkwardness of a teenager exploring the world as his own person for the first time. He captures the sullenness of being dumped on the doorstep of two cranky and elderly strangers, the disgust and even fear of the eccentric habits of his great uncles, and the love as they slowly win each other over as Walter (Haley) learns their amazing story, initially with a sense of disbelief, and finally believing as he sees evidence of his uncles' skills.
I recommend this movie to everyone. It has a great balance of adventure, drama, and comedy.
