Review of Secondhand Lions (2003) by Rich B — 16 Mar 2008
Second Hand Lions (2003): "After 40 years Im used to it. Besides, right now, I figure he needs them worse than I do." - Garth.
Three of my favorite characters, Haley Joel Osment (Walter), Robert Duvall (Hub), and Michael Caine (Garth) star in a cross-generational story of a shy nephew who is pawned off by his man-hunting mother on his two crazy (and mysterious) great uncles.
Rumored to be worth millions, family and hucksters plague the Uncles. Walter helps the Uncles get the upper hand and, in the bargain, learns of their exotic past. The story was written by Tim McCanlies, the man behind the series "Smallville.".
"Just because something isn't true, doesn't mean you can't believe in it." - Hub.
Five dogs, a pig. and a lion co-star in this wonderful film. I live for movies like this.
