One of my all-time favorites! This is a story as old as the hills! Bad stuff happens to good people. As is always the case, the result of the evil circumstances in life depend more on the way we react than the original evil intent.

Haley Joel Osment is wonderful as "the kid", while a "supporting cast" consisting of Robert Duvall and Michael Caine guarantees a great watch.

The star-power of the cast does not disappoint. We are treated to a truly fanciful, wonderful, imaginative and fantastic story. Yet we are convinced without exception that it could really very well be TRUE! Then we are shown it to be.

We get to ride shotgun in a pair of adventurer's lives we could only wish to emulate. We get to witness the depravity and selfishness that, unfortunately, defines far too many of us! Walter (Osment) is pawned off onto the uncles (Duvall and Caine) so Mom can chase yet another man. The uncles are purported to be quite wealthy, though living very frugally. Mom instructs Walter to find the money so...

Walter falls in love with his uncles and they with him. He is the antithesis of the money-hungry relatives so often pushing their presence onto the wild-youthed pair. Travelling salesmen play an important comedic role in several sight gags.

There are sub-plots a-plenty here. Tragedy strikes the heart of the young Walter. Manhood occurs in the lives of some early toughs bent on messing with the uncles...

Suffice to say, this is a gem of a movie. Rent it; buy it, but by all means WATCH IT!!
