Review of Searching for Sugar Man (2012) by Richard D — 09 Jan 2014
Wow is this overhyped. I don't really buy this at all. First, it acts incredulous that a talented singer/songwriter (and he is quite talented) would >gasp< not be successful. Second, it asks you to accept that a bunch of white musicians who liked this guy almosat single-handedly brought down the Apartheid system.
Third, it asks you to accept the claim that it took decades to locate someone who's name, record company and location were pretty well known. Finally, we're asked to be stunned by the fact that a popular musician had a small successful tour.
A nice story ... but Jesus Christ, what's so unusual about any of this?
