Steven Zaillian won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for Schindler's List. Then he took a stab at directing his own script about a child prodigy at the game of chess, who's groomed as the next Bobby Fischer.
Max Pomeranc is terrific as Josh Waitzkin while Joan Allen and Joe Mantegna are terrific as the boy's parents. Ben Kingsley and Laurence Fishburne offer terrific support as Josh's book smart and street smart chess instructors.
