Review of Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993) by Rachel L — 13 Nov 2010
This movie was phenomenal. The kid was well-cast. I liked the juxtaposition between Bobby Fischer's story and Josh's: the hardline, winner-take-all chess player obsessed with winning over everything else, someone who "held the world in contempt" - something Josh is unwilling to do. It makes you wonder if, towards the end of his career, FIscher even liked playing chess anymore.
Just thought of this - I'm sure it's a coincidence and just a play on words, but Josh spends the two weeks before a championship "fishing" and not thinking about chess - something that "Fisch-er" would never do.
