Review of Searching (2018) by Charlie O — 27 Sep 2018
This movie had some twists and turns that I did not see coming and, yeah, a few that I totally did but it was amazing how the surprises were based upon, shall we say, the nature of the internet. Unique and worth seeing.
There was never a moment when this movie was bashing morality like so much of the slop offered by Hollywood...indeed, this movie seemed to uphold a lot of the values I and other Americans hold dear, even in this crazy internet age. Despite the fact most of the main characters were Asian, the movie did not keep beating its audience over the head with some kind of pedantic message about diversity, and did not seem to be pandering to the overseas Chinese box office unlike, say, The Meg. I didn't go into the movie thinking I would like it as much as I did, but I was won over.
