Review of Searching (2018) by Jan P — 09 Sep 2018
What I came away learning most for this film was my KID (if I had one) would never be recovered b/c I have NO idea what I'm doing with technology. Seriously! I truly understand how accurate THIS portrayal was, that we all leave a firm digital footprint & in the right hands, they can mean wonders. But also it was left UP to the Dad, so if in HIS shoes, well...forgetaboutit! I don't want to leave any spoilers but WILL say I didn't see what was coming beforehand & I sorta feel it was far too implausible (for reasons I can't outline without further spoilers) but all the same, pretty creative direction to go. I just don't think it possible & again, can't say why without letting too much out here. Plus once they committed to that narrative, I thought it bought in too closely to many horror-flicks which to me, few do it well so I'm discerning & critical there.
What should compel you is to watch this Dad use his brain like no other, totally amid insurmountable stress & chaotic upheaval. I'd not GET OUT of bed, but know there are persons like him, able to navigate a crisis & often do their best rising to the occasion. Never lost my attention for even a second. .
