Review of Searching (2018) by Thomas A — 01 Sep 2018
I only caught this movie because MoviePass wouldn't let me buy tickets for Crazy Rich Asians for some reason, and I'm so glad for it!
I loved how just when you thought you had figured it out, they'd pull the rug out from you in a believable way. The twists and the red herrings were very well done. Great attention to detail and it all makes sense in the end without at all being predictable.
Somehow I hadn't even heard of this movie before today. I don't know if the name had anything to do with it, since the name itself doesn't make you as interested. Like while I loved this movie more than the Unfriended movies, those had fitting names for their moves, whereas Searching sounds a bit generic. But I can't really come up with a better name either so what do I know.
I really enjoyed John Cho - god, Hollywood needs to give him all the roles. That scene with him getting the phone call in Peter's kitchen and breaking down, absolutely gut-wrenching.
