Review of Seabiscuit (2003) by Kathleen B — 31 Aug 2009
So it's got a good cast mostly acting solidly, some interesting cinematography that sometimes dares to show rather than tell, and some well-shot horse-racing that genuinely delivers on the speed and danger involved. And I really liked the opening act, setting up the main protagonists and their stories.
But ultimately this is pretty predictable (even if you don't know the story) and never flinches from crowd-pleasing cliches: slow-mo here, evocative score there, montages all over the place...
