Review of Seabiscuit (2003) by Samantha R — 20 Jan 2010
Beautiful movie about triumph over adversity. Performances are very good all around. William H. Macy has about five minutes of screentime if that and steals each scene he is in. The parallels between the horse and the other characters is apparent and even discussed so there is no deep hidden meaning to uncover. But that said,... it is inspirational and moving and by the time the last race of the film was over I was weeping. If you love animals (big or small) and can be moved by their connections to a human then I think you will enjoy this film. It may be trying to pull at your heartstrings occasionally but it's enough of a journey back in time that I was glad to take the trip and endure.
"Have a nice ride Johnny..." now, cue the tears... and go! :).
